The truth about energy switching

What is really going on with this energy switching business?

We conducted a recent survey at Energy Advisory Service UK.

The real aim of this survey was to find out how many People really save money on their energy bills.

It’s a sad fact that the majority of the population just can’t be bothered when it comes to looking for a cheaper price for their energy bills.

These are the categories I have placed Consumers:

  • Reluctant to switch energy supplier. This applies to most People
  • Have switched in the past, but don’t check prices on a regular basis
  • Switch to the cheapest Tariff every time my prices increase. This applies to the fewest.

Although the Government have been running campaigns to urge Consumers to switch to a cheaper priced energy deal, in most cases, this has been falling on deaf ears.

Is it simply because, People just don’t understand it? Or perhaps they think it’s just too much hassle!

Latest statistics show that, those who can’t be bothered switching to a cheaper tariff, have paid an additional £4.1 Billion to Their energy suppliers. This figure applies to everyone Who is paying standard energy prices.

The truth is, it’s very straight forward to switch your energy supplier these days. The new supplier handles everything for you.

All you have to do is, get quotes through a comparison site and choose a cheaper energy deal.

There are a few things which make this Bill Saver tariff from npower worthwhile.

  • £75 Love 2 Shop voucher
  • npower Customers who take out boiler maintenance get half refunded if you don’t call them out
  • The price works out amongst the cheapest in many cases

But not so keen on:

  • You have to wait 12 months to receive your full discount in the form of a rebate

Would I take this tariff?

All things weighed up, and although I’m not too keen on waiting 12 months to get the whole discount, I would be swayed into taking this deal. The vouchers also help to make this quite attractive.

British Gas not telling customers about their cheapest energy deal

British Gas have been accused of not offering customers their best deals

get quotes for British Gas and all the other suppliers

This comes as no surprise. But it has always been this way. Not just with British Gas, but the same applies to all the energy suppliers.

Your supplier is not going to contact you to offer you a better price on your gas and electricity bills, unless you are paying quarterly. Then they would prefer you to pay by Direct Debit.

All energy suppliers offer a Direct Debit discount, because they can be sure of getting their payments on time.

So if your energy supplier won’t offer you their best deal, whose responsibilty is it to ensure you are getting the best price for your gas and electricty?

Yours?

So, how do you get the best deal from your supplier?

It’s unlikely that you will get the best deal from your current supplier. The suppliers who want to attract new customers offer their best deals on the internet.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Loyalty is a sure fire way to ensure you are on the most expensive tariff.
