What would we do?

We advise against switching to any supplier based on what people are telling you. For example – Octopus is the best supplier. Or, Bulb is the cheapest supplier.

To determine your cheapest supplier, you would need to get quotes based on your own energy consumption. We advise you do this through an Ofgem Accredited Comparison Site

From there, you may not want to switch to the absolute cheapest supplier because they may take your first payment on day one. Traditionally, suppliers used to take your first payment one month in arrears. Now, most of the new suppliers take your first payment straight away. That’s like losing a whole month of energy money!

Editors note:

Currently, neither of these suppliers is the absolute cheapest on comparison sites. They are still both much cheaper than Standard Energy prices and if you use one of the £50 referrer links, you will be making an additional saving of £50. Don’t forget, when you join one of these suppliers you will also get a referral link that you can share so you can get £50 each time someone switches through your own link.

    1. That’s a great question. You could find all the suppliers prices per KWH, but you would need to visit the 100 plus energy suppliers to find their prices. It is so much easier to compare prices through a comparison site as they have already got them on their own systems.

  1. Why is switching so hard for people on a low income who don’t want to or for whom payment by none direct debit methods is a problem because they are on benefits such as PIP or Carers Allowance?

When are these companies going to realise many disabled customers are not in full time higher paid employment?
